Who the simple template suits
Choose this template when a posting says to apply through an applicant tracking system, or when you simply want the safest, plainest page. There are no columns, icons or text boxes to confuse a parser.
In a 2026 ClearanceJobs recruiter survey, formatting was rarely a reason to reject a resume, so spend your effort on clear bullets that echo the job posting in natural words. Send the file type the posting requests.

Simple ATS resume questions
Does ATS automatically reject resumes?
Often not. A 2026 ClearanceJobs recruiter survey found rejection is mostly human, with automatic filters limited to knockout questions. Clear content still matters.
How can I check my file?
Copy the text into a plain-text editor; if it stays in order, the file reads cleanly.
PDF or Word?
Follow the posting. If it is silent, a PDF keeps the layout intact.
Should I use keywords?
Use the posting's wording inside real bullets; avoid keyword lists.
Is there a photo or icons?
No. The layout is text only on purpose.
